When did we lose connection to our joy?

Over the weekend I went to a couple of dance classes. Nothing fancy - just the ones my gym puts on. You know how it goes, loud music, energetic instructors and a whole lot of uncoordinated souls spinning in opposing directions with admirable intentions. (Me being one of them...)

And maybe it's an age thing. Maybe I've just surpassed the "give a damn" threshold because I know the days ahead are now roughly equivalent that of those behind me, but I just want to do more things that make me feel this way. More things that make me feel truly alive and lit up. Things that are quite simply for the joy of it.

So, let me ask YOU:

When was the last time you did something purely because it felt good?

Not for the outcome

Not to be the best at it

Not because it was the best optimisation of your time...

But because you felt like yourself when you did it.

You felt energised by it

You stopped thinking and planning

And you started experiencing. Being.

Honestly, when I ask this question, most of my clients can't remember. And I find this to be so incredibly sad.

Why don't these moments exist now? Why do we treat them as rewards for banking enough days of hard work and hustle? Why are we waiting to live our lives, and saving up our "fun allowance" so we can spend it when we've done enough to earn it?

We plan like life is a spreadsheet, but tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, and the number we’re pushing for may never get to fill its cell.

Stop waiting to do the things that nourish your soul.

Because those things are the very threads that help weave together a life that feels worthwhile.

Stop optimising and start being human.

Leave work early. Shut off your inbox for a bit. Reconnect with your joy like  it’s the only thing on your to-do list.

Stop waiting to have earned it.

Because here's the kicker: this life is happening right now, not later.
